December 19th, 2024
Author: e.wright@b4rn.org.uk
We are so excited to share this, the first chapter of the unofficial B4RN book has been released.
The B4RN book has been complied and written by the volunteers and invites readers to explore the inspiring story of B4RN, tracing its journey from inception through its pivotal early projects.
At its heart, it is a celebration of the founding members and volunteers who championed an innovative, community-led approach to tackling the challenges of digital connectivity. Through a rich tapestry of stories, oral histories, photographs, and personal memories. This book reflects the resilience, collaboration, and human connections that made B4RN possible.
The book will be released chapter by chapter, it not only honours those who brought the project to life in those early days but also highlights the transformative power of community in bridging the digital divide.
While B4RN, over the last decade has grown into an award-winning, highly successful, and community-focused organisation, we remain committed to honoring and remembering our groundbreaking beginnings.
A message from Chris Conder, member of B4RN User Group and complier of this book:
'Thank you to all the storytellers. The long-awaited B4RN Book is taking shape! This community-driven project tells the story of how our network came to life, written by the people who made it happen.
We’ve decided to release the book in instalments. After each chapter is shared, readers can suggest changes, additions, or corrections. If no feedback is received, we’ll assume the chapter is ready to go and move on to the next.
Many of you may have met the editor Kira Allman, who has been gathering stories from volunteers and weaving them into a narrative. Her work reflects the grassroots spirit that built the network—a collaborative effort that aims to inspire future generations.
We hope the B4RN Book will be a pleasure to read and a fitting tribute to everyone who has contributed to this remarkable project.
