Broadband for the Rural North relies massively on the generosity and help of landowners and farmers. There is only one way we can build an affordable network, connecting even the most rural properties, and that is with their local knowledge, assistance and free wayleave permissions.
Wayleaves
B4RN’s wayleave agreement is a simple single page, plain English document that gives us permission to install B4RN ducts across a landowner’s property. We are very grateful for these free wayleaves as it is the only way a network of B4RN’s scale can be built by a community.

"We were really respectful to local landowners. We wanted to be able to go across their land, when we had no right to do so. Certainly in 2013/14 there was no reason they should understand much about B4RN or fibre. So why should they say ‘yes, we’ll let you go across for nothing and, what’s more, we’ll even put it in for you’. But in fact that’s exactly what they did. Nobody is more committed to a rural community than the local farmers – it’s where they live and work, it’s where their history and future is."
