What attracted you to the fibre broadband industry?
I first got involved by working with my local community to bring fibre to our home; this involved being out digging in the fields fuelled on tea and cake. We had just moved in to the area when the project began and it became a great way of meeting our neighbours. B4RN looked like a friendly company that was dedicated to helping the community, it seemed like a unique place to work and start a career whilst allowing me to work in an area I love.
What sets B4RN apart?
We are registered as a Community Benefit Society and run by a dedicated local team with the support of landowners and volunteers.
How long have you been with B4RN?
I started with the company four and a half years ago as a receptionist. I then move into the role of operations assistant, allowing me to broaden my knowledge of materials used for a fibre build. Next, I successfully interviewed for a Project Coordinator role before moving into my current role.
Describe your role?
My current role in the company is as a Customer Connections Team Leader. I am responsible for managing the Customer Connections Coordination Team, liaising with volunteers, contractors, and engineers.
What advice would to give to women considering joining the industry?
Do not be afraid to put yourself out there, there are a lot of opportunities to learn within the fibre industry.
What do you see for the future of the fibre industry?
As Global demand continues to increase, and the Government continue to support the full fibre roll out the future looks very bright for the fibre industry, the coronavirus pandemic highlighted the importance of a reliable internet connection.
