Crosthwaite School Celebrates 10Gbps B4RN Connection

Crosthwaite Primary School has officially marked joining B4RN’s full fibre broadband network.

Local volunteers, South Lakes MP Tim Farron and B4RN CEO Michael Lee all dropped in on Year 6 pupils (who were all busy online using their laptops!) on Wednesday morning.

The school gets its 10Gbps service for no charge, joining dozens of other community hubs getting free B4RN service.

Headteacher Matt Jessop said: “It’s brilliant stuff for a community broadband project. The work involved from the start by a hugely committed group of community members, led by Stewart Wren – own of our Governors, and then continued by the existing fantastic group was absolutely amazing. Having a 10GB connection now (for free) as opposed to an expensive, and relatively poor, connection with a National provider is exactly what all schools deserve.”

B4RN CEO Michael Lee said it’s great to see yet another example of a dedicated volunteers coming together to deliver a future-proof connection to the heart of their community: “Nobody knows what the future of education will hold in terms of remote learning or virtual reality, but now Crosthwaite Primary has connectivity to match the world’s finest educational institutions.”

South Lakes MP Tim Farron added: “It was an absolute joy to visit Crosthwaite Primary to see the positive impact that being connected to hyperfast broadband has had on the pupils’ learning.

“This fantastic collaboration between B4RN and the local community in Crosthwaite will now make the village even more attractive for people to stay and bring up their family here which is really great news for the long-term future of the school.”
