News archive: B4RN Wins ISPA Internet Hero Award

July 4th, 2012

As posted recently here, B4RN had been selected for the 5 finalists in the Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) Awards, held in London last night. We were placed in the “Internet Hero” category “For bringing high speed internet into remote rural communities, setting an example for others to follow”.

Well the awards were announce and we are delighted to say that B4RN won! This is fantastic news. Making the final five was good enough but this beats all expectations. The room was packed full of key people from the internet industry and winning this just demonstrates peer support for what B4RN is working towards. Many hours of work have gone in so far from the community, both local and more wide spread. Support like this gives the encouragement that is needed.

Here is a photo of Chris Conder and Barry Forde on the podium receiving the award.

Here’s a photo of Chris and Barry just after receiving the award on behalf of the B4RN community. I think they were quite pleased!

Thanks to Trefor Davies for the photo.

This is a show of confidence from the Industry in the B4RN project. There were many industry experts at the awards ceremony, B4RN received many messages of support and some good connections were made.

There is still much work to do but B4RN hopes to have the first properties connected in the next few weeks, weather permitting. As can be imagined, it’s a bit muddy out in those fields!

Here are a couple of blogs that have popped up reporting on the night. this from thinkbroadband and this from Trefor Davies, CTO of Timco.

Thanks to everyone for all the support so far. Don’t forget, you can still invest in B4RN and there is also the duct sponsorship scheme running. Two very good ways to support the project.

Stories from out in the field from our very happy customers

One residential customer in Over Kellet used to know whether it was worth firing up her computer by looking out of her front window to see what the weather was doing with her telephone line.

OMG it is amazing! I don’t want to go back to London, which was faster than here, but not now! Just to say a BIG THANK YOU to all you guys, what a great thing you are doing. I’m shocked not everyone is signing up!

After lambing 1300 ewes a good film is what I want to watch and because we have B4RN that is no problem. Just enables me and my family to get on.
