Trainee Network Engineer

You will be trained to install blown fibre optic cabling in the provision of both inside and outside plant in order to distribute B4RN Next-generation access, Fibre to the Home broadband.   You will be trained to fusion splice core, edge and customer fibre cables into optical distribution frames, splice enclosures and termination units, as well as troubleshoot, test and maintain fibre installations across new and existing network infrastructure.

RESPONSIBILITIES

You will install fibre optic splice enclosures onto new and existing cables at locations including but not limited to, Core Nodes, Field/Roadside Chambers and Customer Premises, and prepare and splice fibre optic cables within enclosures using joint, loop-though, tray, CPE and end-of-line methods in accordance with B4RN site specific connection plans and associated standards.

You will be responsible for testing and troubleshooting faults on new and existing fibre installations using an OTDR, optical power meter, fibre identifier and visual scope, and for commissioning customer premises equipment to include initial configuration of devices, basic troubleshooting, and fulfilment of customer contract to return to the office.

You will need to document faults, changes and additions on site, transfer recorded information on to the relative B4RN reporting system or to specific departments as directed, and provide support and assistance for the Network Engineering team when there is a core network fault. This can include events such as a physical fibre break or power outage at core sites. This may require 24x7 call-out rota working.

REQUIREMENTS

•         Experience with Microsoft Office and computing in general; appropriate training will be given.

•         Able to work on own initiative. Strong attention to detail, and good team worker.

•         Ongoing possession of a full, valid driving licence.

•         No previous experience is necessary and any training or qualifications required for the job role will be provided by B4RN.
