Communities have so much to gain: faster broadband for families and businesses, FREE service to primary schools, village halls, places of worship and other community assets.
The opportunity for the community to come together by creating a Community Dig Team, this enables communities to earn money to put back into their own community projects by garden digging and house kit fitting.
Alongside all this incredible benefits you get connected to a business and provider that cares about service!
Connecting Communities
We’re pleased to share an update on our ongoing progress in the North East.
As you may be aware, due to the scale of our projects, we are unable to progress all of them simultaneously. However, we aim to complete all the North East projects within 3 years.
As a result, some areas are making significant progress and are moving into our development and delivery phases, while others are still in the initial phase.
Warden is within the initial phase of feasibility meaning we're accessing demand in your local area and planning how to connect you.
Are you in an area still in the early stages of B4RN's rollout?
We need your help to get the ball rolling!
As we engage with communities and assess feasibility, raising awareness and encouraging registrations is crucial. While our team is actively promoting B4RN in your neighbourhood, your involvement can make a significant difference! Here’s how you can help:
Spread the Word: The more people who know about B4RN coming to your area, the better. Share the news within your community, online, and through word of mouth.
Get Involved: We’re looking for volunteers to assist with leaflet drops, poster placements, and other promotional activities. If you’re interested in lending a hand, please reach out to your B4RN Project Manager. Our marketing team is ready to support you with resources and guidance.
We need at least 15% registrations in your area before we can progress to Development.
Encourage people to register their interest in a B4RN connection via Get B4RN.
Get Involved, Get Volunteering
B4RN is built on community spirit.
At B4RN we work hand-in-hand with rural communities to design, plan and build a full-fibre network. We then deliver some of fastest internet service in the country (1,000mbps) to every customer on the network at a low cost
We’ve been doing this for more than a decade, and we’re proud to have 14,000 rural properties currently taking service.
We can only do this thanks to the hard work and dedication of our amazing volunteers, who are willing to invest so much of their time and energy to deliver significant and lasting benefit to their wider community.
B4RN volunteers participate in a wide range of activities, from planning and walking routes, agreeing wayleaves, encouraging sign-up and investment, digging trenches, coordinating site work between volunteers and landowners, laying duct, installing chambers, helping to connect customers... and of course none of this would be possible without tea and cake.
Volunteering at B4RN is open to everyone and our volunteers are from all walks of life - volunteer groups have a wide variety of skills and experience. No prior experience is necessary, and where specific skills are required, we provide a range of training. B4RN volunteers gain a wide range of new skills and experience as the project develops.

Get Involved, Get Investing
B4RN is a Community Benefit Society, we aren’t interested in commercial speculation, so we only extend our network into communities where we’re wanted.
Each new area that invites B4RN in needs to raise a certain level of investment to cover the work and materials required for their area’s installation. Currently, a significant amount of that cost is being met with government voucher funding.
Project Gigabit is the funding programme by the UK Government that promises £5 billion to subsidise the roll-out of gigabit-broadband to the ‘hardest to reach’ premises in the country that will not be reached by private investment.
Each new area needs to raise a certain level of investment to cover the remaining cost of work and materials required for their area’s installation.
What makes B4RN Different?
Rural communities are at the heart of what
we do.
The B4RN Mission:
"To deliver the best internet service in the country to the areas that are hardest to reach, working shoulder to shoulder with, and for, rural communities, to realise the enduring benefits of greater resilience and connectivity."
