Setting Wi-FI Mesh Systems to Access Point mode

Service Status

This guide takes you through how to set your mesh up in Access Point mode

Many Wi-FI Mesh systems tend to set themselves up in router mode. This can cause network issues as both your B4RN router and Mesh system may both try and issue IP leases to your devices. There should only be one device on your network doing this and it should normally be the B4RN router.

Note that manufacturers use different terminology to describe Access Point mode.

This guide assumes you've already gone through the set up of your Wi-Fi Mesh system and have got it working. The settings below are something the manufacturers don't fully make clear.

TP Link Deco models

  • Launch the Deco app on your phone or tablet. You'll have used this to set up the mesh system

  • Tap More in the bottom right corner then tap Advanced

  • Tap Operating Mode and choose Access Point mode.

  • The app will say it's going to reboot the mesh units, tap OK

Tenda Nova models

  • Launch the Tenda app on your phone or tablet. You'll have used this to set up the mesh system

  • Choose Settings then Internet Settings to enter the configuration page

  • Tap Connection Type

  • Select Bridge or Access Point (different models use differing terminology)

  • The mesh units will reboot

Linksys Velop models

  • Tap Save

  • Tap Enable Bridge Mode when you are ready

  • While saving your settings, your devices may disconnect temporarily until the changes have been applied

  • Once done, the dashboard should display that your mesh system is now in bridge mode.

Stories from out in the field from our very happy customers

One residential customer in Over Kellet used to know whether it was worth firing up her computer by looking out of her front window to see what the weather was doing with her telephone line.
